I was recently invited to try out the Mediterranean restaurant Zizi Limona located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They have recently made it onto the Michelin Bib Gourmand 2016 list. I was excited to experience the restaurant as I have heard only good things about it and I enjoy Mediterranean food but haven’t had it in quite some time.
As soon as I entered I fell in love with the hip vibe and decor. The place was dimly lit which makes it perfect for date night or just to unwind with friends. There is a cute bar area if you prefer not to sit at a table.
We were greeted immediately by our server/host Quinn and seated. He gave us a few menu suggestions which was very helpful. After looking over the menu it was hard to narrow it down as everything sounded so delicious. With the help of Quinn’s knowledge our meal was decided on.
For starters we went with the Crazy Baba (charred eggplant, feta and basil with grilled pita bread) & hummus. Let me tell ya! I totally understand why they call it Crazy Baba and why it’s one of the more popular items. It was amazing! And YES I went CRAZY over it!! Like OMG!
For my main I went with another popular item, Hummus Masabacha
(warm ground chickpeas, grilled tomato, tahini, preserved lemon, harissa). It’s almost like a stew. That day it was cold out so the warm goodness was just what I needed.
My friend ordered the Grilled Wild Salmon (chickpea stew, grilled artichokes, kalamata, spinach, tomato salsa, yogurt). Of course I dipped into her plate to try it. All the ingredients worked well together and it was quite tasty.
Now for desserts! Always my favorite part of a meal. I have a bit of a sweet tooth. 🙂
I choose to have the Malabi brûlée. It’s a French style creme brûlée w berries pistachio powder coconut flakes. It was very smooth with just the right amount of sweetness.
The Basbusa cake was my friends pick. She absolutely loved it. It consisted of semolina and olive oil cake, date spread, candid figs, halva and freekeh flakes.
Overall I really enjoyed Zizi Limona and can definitely see myself stopping in when I’m in Williamsburg. Especially for that Crazy Baba!! The staff, ambiance and food are on point here.
FYI Zizi Limona has a great happy hour which is Monday to Friday from 4p to 6p.
